Lessons Learned and helpful Tips:
Working on guitars is great fun! If you own a guitar, you should be able to work on it yourself.
First buy the book:
How to Make Your Guitar Play Great
By Dan Erlewine
Second read the book.
Once your ready to start working on your guitar, make sure that you have a comfortable, clean and well lit work space.
Always use clean rags to cover the face of the guitar. I once dropped the business end of a phillips head screw driver on the face of a brand new Telecaster. It put a deep X on the face just below the bridge.
As I remove screws, I always line them up in the order they came out. The screws should go back into the same holes that they came out of.
As I reinstall the screws, I rotate them backwards until I feel a snap, that snap indicates that the screw threads are now lined up with the screw impressions inside the screw hole.
